2015 El Camino WRAP UP

This year's 40th El Camino was the 4th at the Irwindale Event Center, formerly Irwindale Raceway and went off without a hitch. Saturday's temps mercifully stayed in the double digits and not the 100+ degree temps that we suffered throughout the prior week.

As with so many events this year participation was a little off. Quite a few of our pre-registered vendors had scheduling conflicts at the last minute and couldn't make the trip. The Raceway was kind enough to offer  to the first 25 vendors checking in both Friday & Saturday free tickets to 5 races through the end of the year.

This year we featured some special awards. Kitty from Russ Brown choose and awarded the Russ Brown Choice Award. Nick with Hagerty's made his selections from the field of show entries for the Hagerty's  Choice Awards. Representing Motul was Hector awarding a great gift bag donated by Motul to all our First Place winners. Hector also chose the JCCS's Best Japanese  Award. In addition to the trophy, an invitation to the JCCS show at the Queen Mary the following weekend for a place of honor/display at the Motul booth.

Unfortunately  after 14 events we ended up with a bad photo memory card and none of our photos turned out, so all of the trophy presentation photos are lost. My sincerest apologies, I am very sorry for the disappointment.

Holly with VanTech Motorcycle worked very hard at El Camnio  as well at Hanford to bring out all the faithful to the marque, and to get her Dad, Bill VanTichelt the respect he deserves.

We had plenty of activity in the swap meet, with the nod going to an unusual amount of new British parts finding new homes. A large number of Classic Japanese parts were sold  as well. A first for El Camino was the number of European parts that are starting to show up.

I always get comments about the ups and downs of the level of participation at an event. Show entries, vendors and spectator support are all important, but not the deciding factor for the success of an event. All it takes is a part to find a buyer, then you have a happy vendor, and both the seller and buyer tell friends about their experience, and then you have generated the needed desire for the next event to be better than the previous.

We all need to keep doing what we all seem to care about, getting together a few times a year to share in this obsession we call motorcycles, and with our determination and resolve, we will make the next year better than the previous. Greater numbers don't always mean better,  anticipation and enthusiasm always makes for a great event.

May you all have the best year end ever, all of us at Classic Cycle Events hope to see you next year.

"Hagerty's Choice" awards at El Camino

Classic Cycle Events would like to extend our thanks to Nick Dounias with Hagerty's Insurance for sponsoring their own "Hagerty's Choice" awards at El Camino this year. There will be trophies for 1st. & 2nd. and a great gift for 3rd. They did this at Hanford this year, and it really added more fun to the show.

Nick has an interest in Indian Motorcycles, and builds fine examples. His award winning selections could be for any year, make or model though. His knowledge and good eye will truly make this a " Hagerty's Choice.
