On April 21st some lost a Husband and a Father, others lost a Family Man or Friend, for the rest of us we lost a True Enthusiast in our community of Classic Motorcycles. Kelly was an avid collector putting together an impressive collection of 100pt. Dirt Bikes and Motocrosser's. Kelly restored most of these amazing bikes himself. We will always remember his attention to detail and especially the mantra that was to be his guide line, "it's about the tires". Kelly's efforts, to make sure all of his bikes had the "as issued" tires of brand, style and size, surpasses all the other collections whether private or public, large or small.
Kelly always treated all he came in contact with, as equals. Complimenting you on a neat bike, or a great restoration job. After all, I believe he was just like all of us, a "Gearhead" who truly enjoyed all Classic Motorcycles.
With all this in mind, we at Classic Cycle Events felt that in Kelly's memory we would offer a perpetual trophy to be awarded each year to the participant that showed the dedication and enthusiasm that Kelly shared with all of us. Not just the most perfect bike, but a combination of all things that were Kelly.
the Owen Vintage Motorcycle Collection " Outstanding Enthusiasts" Award
The 2016 winner of the Owen Vintage Motorcycle Collection " Outstanding Enthusiasts" Award is Lee Fabry. Lee was chosen by Kelly's close friend Tom White for his 1972 125cc Hodaka Super Twin Prototype. Built by a True "Enthusiast" with the vision of what could have been had, Hodaka used the former Pabco Company twin cylinder road bike engine in a dirt bike chassis. Great attention to detail, perfect execution, a great example of the dedication of how our friend Kelly was. The trophy will be in the Owen Family keeping, displayed along side of all his motorcycles.
Kelly you might be gone, but you are not forgotten, we are all better for having known you. Your Friend, Marshall & all of us at Classic Cycle Events
